Roasting Coffee

One of my hobbies is roasting my own coffee for espresso or lattes.  People frequently ask me how I do my own roasting.  I thought I would post a video so people could see how it was done.

I have abandoned the clamp on the drill and now just hold the drill to maintain the speed.  I have also found that setting the drill to the higher torque (lower RPM) setting helps maintain the proper speed.  I try to keep the spin at about 60RPM.  I now roast 2 batches and mix them post-roasting.  I do one roasting as a Vienna roast, and then roast another batch at Full City level.  I then mix the 2 roasts 50/50.  This will give me a good caffeine level and a fuller flavor spectrum.

I thought I would set up my new little cheap action cam to record how I do my roasting. SORRY FOR THE POOR AUDIO! I am learning the limitations of this little camera and tried to overcome the audio with my video editor software.

I still like roasting my coffee beans as I can get a FANTASTIC latte from this DIY. I may go a little more upscale sometime by trying to set up a motor attachment instead of the cordless drill. Eh....maybe not. This still works pretty well as-is!!
